The results of test examinations for 60 vacant judicial seats in Azerbaijan were announced on Thursday. Head of the Judicial-Legal Council, Javid Huseynov told Trend News that 213 of the 438 candidates, who participated in the test and scored more than 60 points, were qualified for the second round. The responses to the questions were checked up and made public immediately after the exam.

About 440 applicants for judge posts took part at the exam. The exam was organized by the Election Committee of Judges and the State Commission for Students Admission in the Baku Sports Complex. The entire examination process – selection of topics, reading test questions and checking of answers – was held in the examination hall in presence of candidates and observers.

10 options of question lines were selected between the 1000 test questions worked out by the election committee of judges. Then one of the candidates for judges chose one of the options, and the copies of this option were distributed among the candidates. Chairman of the election committee of judges, Iman Nagiyev told reporters that the candidates had to answer 100 questions over four hours and most of the questions were related to criminal and civil rights. A candidate gets one point for each correct answer and a candidate, who gets 60 or more points, is admitted to the second round. The candidates, who are dissatisfied with the exam results, may lodge an appeal within five days. The successful candidates will pass a written examination.

About 30 representatives of international and local non-governmental organizations attended the examination as observers. Until now, the election committee of judges has conducted two examinations for candidates for judgeship and 157 qualified lawyers were appointed as judges as a result.
