Russia Naval Forces will establish its joint striking group base in Mahachkala, Russian newspapers said quoting the Russian Caspian Navy, APA reports.
The base establishment has already started and Russia expected to deploy its missile carrying ships in the territory soon. Flagship of the Russian Caspian Navy “Tatarstan” Gerard missile carrier will also be deployed near Mahachkala. Russia is also planning to establish fuel and technical bases in Mahachkala to supply its newly-established naval base.

There are more than 100 different ships, air force-support group, as well as airfoil boats equipped with the cruise missiles in the Russian Caspian Navy.
Main ships of the navy are deployed from Astrakhan to Mahachkala in the winter season because of freezing of the northern part of the Caspian Sea.
