Azerbaijan-Georgia border to be cleared of mines and unexploded ordnances

Azerbaijan National Agency for Mine Actions (ANAMA) will clear 60 million sq m area on border with Georgia of mines and unexploded ordnances (UXO), Director General of ANAMA Nazim Ismayilov told APA.

Ismayilov said that there was a polygon of the Soviet army in Jeyranchol.
“There are various rockets and even antitank mines here. State Border Service appealed to ANAMA to review and the clear the area, and we agreed to start work,” he said.

ANAMA Director General also added that mines and UXOs had been observed in the area recently.

The military polygon was one of the largest polygons of the Soviet army in the South Caucasus. Large-scale trainings of the troops were held there.
