Azerbaijan’s state and government officials extend condolence regarding the murder of Azerbaijani Defense Ministry’s Air Force and Air Defense Command General-Lieutenant Rail Rzayev, APA reports.
The condolence reads that General Rzayev’s death is a grievous loss in Azerbaijani Armed Forces: “Azerbaijani Defense Ministry’s Air Force and Air Defense Command, Deputy Defense Minister, General-Lieutenant Rail Rzayev tragically killed at the age of 64, on February 11, 2009.
Rail Gurban Rzayev was born in Baku City on March 10, 1945. He graduated from Vladikavkaz Anti-Aircraft Missiles Command School in 1966. He served in anti-aircraft missiles unions of former Soviet army in Azerbaijan. He was a Chief of Baku Repair Base of Aircraft Defense Forces in 1989-1992. He was appointed commander-in-chief of Air Defense Troops in 1992. He participated in Nagorno Karabakh war. He was a Commander-in-chief of the Air Forces in 1994. He was promoted to lieutenant general by the order of Ilham Aliyev in 2004.
R. Rzayev was always distinguished for his professionalism and experienced commander. Had had special merits in establishment and formation of Air Forces and Air Defence Troops of independent Azerbaijan.
R. Rzayev was awarded several orders and medals of Azerbaijan. He was awarded “Azerbaijani Flag” order for his special services in protection of Azerbaijan’s independence and territorial integrity.
