Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe finalized extraordinary hearings on the activity of democratic institutions in Armenia. Fulfillment of the PACE resolution 1609 on Armenia adopted on April 17 was discussed at the meeting, APA European bureau reports. Some parliamentarians attended the discussions demanded to allow time to Armenia to fulfill recommendations made in the resolution until January 2009.
Co-rapporteurs said Armenia didn’t made enough efforts towards the activity of the democratic institutions in arrears. They welcomed progresses made in a short time and expressed their hopes that Armenia would take necessary steps on the way of democracy and called on to adopt the resolution in the present form. At the end of discussions the resolution was adopted with 27 changes and PACE allowed to Armenia to meet its demands until January 2009.
