The 1st of June is International Child Protection Day. The proposals on providing children’s rights were made at the “International Women Conference” on June 1, 1950 and at the conference June 1st was decided to dedicate to children’s international protection. Since that time June 1st has been International Child Protection Day. As in most countries now Azerbaijan also celebrates this date. For the purpose of strengthening state care children, increasing interest of civil society institutions for child problems and defining demographic perspectives regarding to children the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev signed a decree on December 22, 2008. According to the decree the year of 2009 was announced “Year of Child”.

Taking into consideration that children are our future and the future of our country is in their hands it is our duty to protect them. The protection of the children who are under their parents’ patronage firstly is provided by their parents themselves. But the children who are deprived of parental custody do need our care and attention.

In its 5 year activity “Human Rights in the XXI century-Azerbaijan” Foundation has conducted and is conducting many projects and programs on protection of human rights and enlightenment of society in this sphere. One of the main directions of the foundation is protection of children rights.

As usual, the organization is planning to conduct several projects regarding to the June 1st this year. One of the most important projects is “A book for each”.

Even a lady named Irina Mikhayilovna applied to our organization that she intended to gift a piano for orphans.

On June 1st – International Child Protection Day the employees of “Human Rights in the XXI century-Azerbaijan” Foundation organized a meeting with the children in boarding school for orphans and children deprived of parental custody number 2 in Mardakan. During the meeting the children were presented books and several holiday gifts and their problems were taken care of. It should be noted that the piano caused to great interest and happiness of the kids.

The significance of the action “A book for each”?

It is pretty clear that future of a country might be bright only with well educated, broad minded and literal people. It will be wrong to talk about bright future of a nation with youth who doesn’t love their motherland, nation and country.

As well as all over the world in Azerbaijan children deprived of parental custody also become the targets of some criminal groups and human dealers. That’s why high education and outlook of those children are very important issues. So to give contribution to children’s education and outlook that are deprived of parental custody are each citizen’s duty.
